A Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference mini mince pie. Having not tasted another from this particular supermarket, I cannot be sure if there is indeed any difference in quality to their usual festive fare.
Accompanied by a caramel latte and a cup of tea, respectively, at my parent’s house.
Gone in three bites, far too soon. Sweet but tangy, with an almost biscuit-like crunch to the pastry, and just a kiss of salt as the final tasting note. Topped with a delicate snowflake design, these pies leave you with a rich and buttery aftertaste in the mouth, and a yearning for a second.
It is possible that their scrumptiousness was heightened by the nostalgia factor of being consumed alongside hot beverages made by my Father, but perhaps that should just be taken as a serving suggestion.
Best served warm, with a dash of familial sentimentality.
Overall score: 9.5/10
These are going to be hard to beat.
