We have received a question in our mailbox today – are there any substitutions for a potato when applying the Potato Time™ writing philosophy?
The short answer would be no. Potatoes are a perfect and irreproachable food, that not only sustains, but also mimics the artist’s soul.
Solid, yet delicate. Savoury, yet sweet.
Starchy.
However, should you one day find yourself in the horrifying position of having no potatoes to hand, and are unable for one reason or another to swiftly procure them, here are a few lesser alternatives you can consider, in those most darkest of times.
- Putting on a full load of laundry – spin time anywhere up to 3 hours depending on your make and model of washer. Ding. Clean laundry.
- Playing the entirety of The Hoosier’s 2007 debut album The Trick to Life – play time 39:26. Ding. One more for your Desert Island Discs list.
- Properly reduce a batch of homemade pasta sauce – at least 20 minutes, longer if you have added wine. Ding. Pasta time.
It is recommended that if you are starting out on your Potato Time™ journey you begin by practicing the core teachings, before making any modifications. This is the only way to ensure success at your writing, or other artistic endeavours.
